Friday 17th July saw the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr, heralding the end of the month of fasting (Ramadan). On a beautiful sunlit morning, over a thousand people – many with their families, descended for Eid prayers at Masjid At-Taqwa, the majority of whom chose to walk to the Mosque as recommended in Prophetic tradition. As in previous Eid prayers, Masjid At-Taqwa used its Harewood Street hall to accommodate the men whilst Ladies had access to the newly extended and renovated 1 Harewood Street Sisters Centre and the Community Hall on Mornington Street. After prayers and greeting one another in a show of love and togetherness, a host of refreshments were served in what has now become a Masjid At-Taqwa speciality. Over a thousand fresh cream cakes were distributed along with light savoury snacks, sweets, cold drinks and hot tea/coffee. Our youngest attendees also benefited from free goodie bags, which always prove to be extremely popular every year. It was a wonderful, family orientated atmosphere as people indulged in some cake and tea (a must!), whilst sitting and enjoying each other’s company. A special thanks goes out to the Masjid At-Taqwa volunteers who helped make this such a special day for all, and their generous contributions to fund this event completely independently to any masjid funds.
