In mid November, Masjid At-Taqwa was approached by volunteers from ‘Hand in Hand for Syria’ to provide help and support for their aid convoys travelling to Syria.
Masjid At-Taqwa supported this very noble cause by providing the community with a drop off point to help collect clothes, medical supplies baby goods and other essentials to be transported with the aid convey for the struggling families in Syria.
To promote the campaign and increase the awareness of the dire situation in Syria, the Masjid launched an appeal through Facebook and Masjid announcements. The response was phenomenal. Huge numbers from members of the local and surrounding communities as well as visitors from outside of Leicester came to deposit their contributions. The designated hall for the contributions was filled within a fortnight from first launching the appeal and several spaces of overflow were then used.
The contributions comprised second hand goods as well as many newly purchased items. Items received included duvets, sleeping bags, winter clothes, toiletries, baby essentials, dry food and medical equipment. A small team of dedicated sisters came in daily, morning and evening, to sort through, organise and label all the bags and boxes. May Allaah bless them!
Through the generous donations of the people, the Masjid was able to exceed its own expectations by successfully collecting over three van loads of goods for the Syrian aid convoy.
Masjid At-Taqwa would like to thank all the volunteers who assisted in the work carried out as well as everyone else who made their kind contributions. May the reward of Allah be upon them all.
